Used by military and government agencies to provide Night vision
capability a FIIR equipped helicopter has the strategic advantage
in reconnaissance, target acquisition, and surveillance scenarios.
The "Heat Detection" capability of the FLIR is used to
detect "Hot" failing insulators on electric power tines
during regular monthly line maintenance procedures.
Airborne FLIR applications include Search & Rescue, Forestry
and Resource Management, Pipeline and
Powerline Monitoring and Law Enforcement Patrol.
Pacific Helicopter Tours, Inc. has used the advanced capabilities
of FLIR to assist in EPA violations (Hamakua Sugar, Search &
Rescue efforts in rural and urban areas). FI_IR is used for surveillance
by many taw enforcement agencies at the Federal, State, and Local
levels. The FAA has granted an STC for FtIR an the Bell 206 and
allowed Form 337 installations on the Hughes 500D.
Although FLIR imaging is not approved by the FAA for VFR or IFR
navigation, it demonstrates potential in Adverse Weather Conditions
to provide a recognizable image of the horizon, terrain, helipad
or runway in marginal visibility situations.
FAIR systems can also monitor the presence, azimuth and relative
elevation of other aircraft in the vicinity with images detected
up to 20 miles out in obscured visibility conditions.
Pacific Helicopter tours, Inc. uses FLIR to enhance the capabilities
of our services to our customers with the knowledge that our company
can support the demands of specialized aviation services with one
